Timeline

District Event Deadlines for 2026

District Event Deadlines are typically in February and March.  District Directors will determine event dates and format by early January 2026---and dates will be posted throughout December as they are available.

Spring/Summer/ Early Winter (2025  into 2026)

Middle and High School students conduct research during the current year, typically completing research they want to present by the district deadlines.  District deadlines may vary this year, as District 5-8 State event is being held in late April.

Winter 2025-2026

Students submit their paper and presentation to their regional competition.

  • Paper.  We do ask students to submit a paper, if possible at the Middle School level (as you are more likely to place!).  Required at high school level.

  • Presentation.  A Google Slide or PowerPoint presentation explaining your research.

 

March/April of Each Year

District winners present at the state event.  Registration closes about 2-3 weeks before the event.

Winter of Following Year

First place high school winners are invited to participate as American Junior Academy of Science delegates at the annual conference the year following (typically Washington, DC, a western state major city, or northeast major city).

District Event Information

District event dates are in late winter at a high school. community college, or university/college location in the region.  Students compete regionally in their district  prior to the state meeting.  The regional meeting locations, if in-person, are at a school or university in that region.
 

For 2026, some regional competitions are in-person and some are virtual  There are no plans to do a hybrid (choice of in-person or virtual at the same time).   2026 Registration Dates should all be posted by 2nd week of January.
