The NCSAS is attempting to provide high school student mentors for middle school students who enter the NCSAS competition. Are you interested in participating as a middle school student or as a high school mentor?

Presenter Information






As described in the NCSAS Handbook, research presentations are limited to a 10 minute oral presentation followed by a 5 minute question period. Specialized media presentations such as computers or video projection equipment may be used to supplement an oral presentation..

Current Grade 6-8 9-12

Middle School, Individual or Team Project



Behavioral Science Chemistry Mathematics
Biological Science Computer Science Physical Science
Biotechnology Earth/Space Environmental Science
Technology/Engineering



Advanced means that a paper meets one or more of the following criteria:

  1. The student spent or received gifts worth more than $200 for the project in addition to materials provided by the school (audio-visual supplies are excluded).
  2. The student researcher worked under the direct supervision of an employee of a hospital, college or university, commercial laboratory or industry, or a professional research organiztion.
  3. The student used a database of which a substantial portion was obtained from instrumentation or other procedures that the student researcher did not personally operate or perform.
  4. The project is a continuation of a study for which results have previously been reported by other students.

Fees apply only to students participating in the state competition on March 26, 2010. Fees are payable by mail between March 8 and March 19. Make all checks payable to SCSSI and mail to Kathy Mueller, NCSSM, Box 2418, Durham, NC 27715 or you may bring your check to the 2010 NCSAS Competition.
